CBX 1000 Cafe Racer Frame build – pt1

After a slow start to the build the frame is coming together nicely. Below is a series of pics of the frame & swingarm being setup in the frame jig ready for welding.
In the next post you will see how to shoe horn a big 6 cylinder CBX1000 motor in a small frame, this is going to be one stunning cafe racer.

Carbon Fibre Swingarm construction for Carbon Bonneville – Step 7

Step 7: wrap carbon reinforcement of the whole section
In this post you can see part of the process of competing the Delta pivot mounts and further wrapping of the swingarm.
You will also see that I needed to provide clearance at the centre point of the swingarm as the swingarm would have fouled on the main frame at the expremities of the pivot range. The clearance was provided by cutting out a section of the reinforced tube and then bonding in anouther piece of carbon tube that I had made earlier for this purpose.
Next post will include details of the machining of swingarm pivot bearing housings and the rear spindle carriers that will be bonded into the ends of the main spas

Ducati 750SS Cafe Racer – Design
This is a new build that will likely start in the middle of the year for a customer in Switzerland. This customer is lucky enough to have an example of the 1989 Ducati 750ss as seen below
What the client is looking to achieve is a cool minimalist cafer racer from the classic styled 1980′s Ducati. The first thing we did was have a long chat about how the bike should look and some detials of the types of componentst to be used, then I set about pencil sketching some designs of what the bike might looks like.
