The Taimoshan Super Cafe Racer Story
Starting with a blank piece of paper it was my intention to create a bike to represent an iconic design from the 1960’s Glory years of the Ace Cafe, Isle of Mann TT, mods, rockers, black leather jackets and the best of the modern era with smooth fuel injection power, huge brakes, fancy suspension, light controls and razor sharp handling, the result was Taimoshan the “Super Cafe Racer”.
The challenge with Taimoshan Super cafe racer was how to squeeze a powerful, modern V-Twin, water cooled sportbike motor into an “open” tube frame and still make it look beautiful and Norvin’esque.
When you break it all down there is no place or space to hide any of the technology or ugly bits, so after hundreds of hours of designing and planning and re-designing, only a trained eye could tell that within the envelope of the beautifully polished Manx tank lay an “in tank” electric fuel pump, a huge set of fuel injected throttle bodies, electronic ignition, full engine computer and management system, ancillary management computer, a massive wiring loom with in-excess of 65 wires and a host of other electronic tricky, so it was a job well accomplished I think.

Frame: Custom Norton Manx frame , made from light weight high tensile T45 British Aircraft steel. The frame without swingarm or subframe only weighs 7kgs. The frame was custom designed around the Aprilia RSV1000 Factory V-Twin engine and a hybrid of the Honda CBR1000RR Unit pro-link rear suspension system.
Engine: Std 2004 Aprilia RSV1000 Factory V-Twin , with custom airbox, and Mircosquirt fuel injection. Factory claimed power 143hp
Exhaust: TCW custom fabricated polished stainless 2-2 open pipe with reverse megaphone end cans.
Tank: Polished Alloy , hand made one off 5 Gal Manx style tank , the topside is Manx the bottom is completely fabricated to house the Injection Throttle bodies and in tank fuel pump etc
Rear Subframe: TCW fabricated unit, self supporting and housing the custom radiator and electronics
Seat Unit: Hand fabricated one off to a design by TCW, covered in Ox Blood red leather by Saxon Seats
Cooling: Custom designed and fabricated rad by TCW which has approx 50% greater cooling capacity than the std rad on the Aprilia, this is to offset the reduced airflow from being positioned under the seat unit.
Front Suspension: Ducati / Showa forks and yokes
Rear Suspension: CBR1000RR unit prolink configuration graphed to a CBR600 swingarm , design & fabrication by TCW
Brakes: matching Ducati/Brembo brake calipers and disc rotors
Wheels: Ducati 999 wheels, stripped and re-powdercoated in gloss black.
Controls: Brembo Radial master cylinders , brake and clutch , goodridge braided brake & clutch lines

Oil Tank: Under engine dry sump oil tank designed and fabricated by TCW
