Story

It is not often you get the chance to build 2 similar bikes side by side for essentially the same customer, but that is what happened and this is one of the pair to are destined for Dubai in the United Arab Emerites.  The project started out with  a brief and a couple of couple photos the style of bike the customer wanted.  The design would be heavily influenced by the work of the Wrenchmonkees of Denmark and CRD  in Spain.

As the customer was in another country the brief also included sourcing the donor bike on which to build.  The bike chosen was a 1980 Honda CB750 FA in very good condition.  It is my belief that it is really a false economy to by a “junker” as the base of your project just because its cheap, as you always end up sending a lot more money fixing or replacing the problem parts.

About 4.5-5 months later of work and the bike was ready for the road, the mods on this bike have totally transformed the , styling, performance and handling of the bike, going from an asthmatics commuter to an aggressive flickable brat racer.

Owner:  Sean – Dubai

Specs: 1980 Honda CB750 FA

Frame: chopped, braced and re-shapped in-house. Basically we chopped the tail off, re-positioned the seat frame rail,      braced the back of  the frame hoop and raised the back of the tank by about 2.5inches to straighten out the lines of the bike from commuter/cruiser to racer.  The frame was completely stripped, blasted chopped and repainted in satin black

Engine: Std internals , externally the engine was shot blasted and the covers repainted in satin black, the rest of the engine is let in raw alloy finish. Won’t be a problem in the dry Middle East.

Exhaust: Custom stainless 4-2 exhaust made in house by TCW, in the same config as the factory unit, fitted with open reverse megaphone end cans.  This really increases the breathing capacity of the std motor so much to the the engine would not run able 2000rpm with the std carb jetting.  The pipes are LOUD!   See the youtube video to hear the sound.

Carbs: factory Keihin CV carbs, heavily modified and rejetted to match to new exhaust.  Anyone that has fitted pod filters to a CB750 or 900 for CV carbs will know what I am talking about when I say it is virtually impossible to get the things to idle, but with persistence a good selection of jets and some clever carb mods it can be done beautifully. This bike runs so sweet.

Forks: Std units, stripped, rebuilt and repainted,

Rear end:  Std shocks, stripped and powdercoated

Brakes: Std OEM  with Venhill braided lines

Wheels: Factory Comstars, stripped, blasted and powdercoated in Satin black, rebuilt with new bearings

Tyres: Coker Diamonds

Paint & graphics: designed by customer , metallic bronze base with candy top coat, white pinstripe and satin black boot mark.

Seat unit: custom fabricated my Taimoshan Cycle Works ( TCW )

Bars & Controls: Renthal Ultra Low bars, factory racing grips, modern switchgear, mini speedo

Electrics:   Modified Cb750 loom, to integrate a Digital Guard Dawg “keyless” ignition system ( no key required )  and all new switch gear .

Lighting: 8 inch Millar repro headlight, micro LED indicators

Battery:  Ballistic EVO2  8 cell 15ah Lithium Ion lightweight race battery, mounted in custom battery box under swingarm

This bike is virtually a new bike with almost all parts either being reconditioned or replaced.
